Credit Options for Retrieval and Advancement
Credit Recovery
For students that did not pass a core class for the semester, there are options to earn back the credit:
-
Credit Recovery through Online Module - Students can make up identified core credits through Online Modules in Canvas. Please talk with your counselor for additional information on this option. The grade is recorded on the transcript as a P (Pass) instead of a letter grade.
-
Retake Course - Students have the option to retake the course for a letter grade. This can be done in person at LHS during the semester or online.
-
Summer School - Students have the option to make up the credit for a letter grade in ISD's Summer School.
Grade Improvement
For students that earned a C, C-, D+, D, or F for the semester, there are options to raise your grade:
Students can use one of these methods to improve the grade on no more than 2.0 credits* (4 semester classes). In order to do this, you must take the exact same class. The student, for any/all grade improvement course(s) must receive prior written approval by the school counselor or it will not be considered for grade improvement. Approval cannot be granted retroactively. Upon completion of the course, you must notify your counselor and registrar. Per WAC 392-415-055and WAC 392-415-070 the grade being improved must remain on the student’s transcript. The credit, however, will be changed to zero so the grade is not used in calculating the student’s GPA. The new grade, if higher, will be used for calculating.
-
Retake Course - Students have the option to retake the same course for grade improvement. This can be done in person at LHS during the semester or online.
-
Summer School - Students have the option to improve their grade by retaking the same course in ISD's Summer School.
-
Community College Course - In specific cases of higher level courses, a community college course taken on a college campus may qualify for grade improvement. In these individual cases, the counselor will specify the exact course which satisfies the requirement(s) and students must seek approval prior to taking the course. This is not an option for every course.
Additional Credit Opportunities
Removing HS Credit Earned in MS
Students who earned high school credit during middle school have the option to remove the credit and grades from their high school transcript. A request can be made to either remove the credit and grade entirely, or have the course transcribed for graduation requirements only (the grade will be a P (pass) on the transcript and not factored into the GPA). Note that NCAA may value a “P” grade as a “D” (1.0 grade point) for scholarship eligibility. This request can be made at any time up to the end of a student's junior year. Please note that once this request has been made and the credit has been removed, or designated as only for graduation, no further changes will be permitted. [RCW 28A.230.090(4); WAC 392-415-070].
