The Navy JROTC unit at Liberty High School earned first place at the Northwest Drill and Rifle Conference Championship, marking the first known conference championship in school history.

The Northwest Drill and Rifle Conference includes 34 JROTC programs from Western Washington and northwest Oregon, organized into five divisions. Throughout the school year, schools compete in four drill meets featuring events in Academics, Color Guard, Unarmed Drill, Armed Drill, Physical Fitness and Air Rifle. Teams qualify for the conference championship by placing among the top two in their division.

Liberty’s NJROTC unit, Patriot Company, won its division championship for the sixth consecutive year and qualified nine teams for the conference championship, held at Oregon City High School in Oregon City, Oregon.

At the championship meet, Patriot Company earned first place in Academics, Physical Fitness and Color Guard. The team also earned second place in Armed Drill and Academics, and third place finishes in Color Guard, Precision Air Rifle and Unarmed Drill. In total, Liberty scored 72 points, finishing 38 points ahead of the second-place team.

In addition, Liberty cadets earned 13 individual medals at the event.
