Seniors – The FAFSA Is open!     It’s time to apply for Financial Aid!

If you’re applying to college (or thinking about applying to college), filling out the FAFSA is the way to find out if you’re eligible to receive federal, state, and college aid.

Go to StudentAid.gov (Links to an external site) to get started with the FAFSA. Or to fill out the WASFA, go to https://wsac.wa.gov/wasfa (Links to an external site).

Do you have questions about the FAFSA application, wonder if you should even try for financial aid, or are questioning whether you should fill out the FAFSA or WASFA? Many of those questions can be answered on our College & Career Website's Paying for College page, by clicking on the Qualifying for Financial Aid tab.

Additionally, your College & Career Specialists would love to talk with you about your financial aid questions (we can even help you apply)!  You can drop in before or after school, during lunch, or during any free period. Additionally, you can sign up for Flex with the College & Career Center in Student Support Time (just look for "College and Career Help"). Or you can send us an email and request a specific meeting time at: LHSCollegeandCareer@issaquah.wednet.edu

Students, Please Update Skyward with Your Personal Email – Especially Important for Seniors!

Why this matters:

  • Lost Access After Graduation: School email accounts are permanently deactivated when a student leaves or graduates.
  • Transcript Delivery Issues: Parchment (the service used to send official transcripts) requires a personal email to send crucial account registration codes. Without it, students cannot access their unofficial transcripts.
  • Blocked Communications: Email filters occasionally block and fail to deliver important external messages to school email addresses.
What you need to do
  1. Complete this form, to provide a reliable, personal email address.
  2. We will update the student profile in Skyward for you.
  3. Note: We strongly recommend using a professional-sounding email address (e.g., firstname.lastname@gmail.com).

If you have any questions, please contact the College and Career Center.

  • You can fulfill your high school world language requirement
  • You may qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy on your high school diploma and transcripts
  • You may meet the world language requirements for college admission

What is a High School & Beyond Plan 2026-2027

Beginning in 7th grade, students create and update their High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) on SchooLinks, a district-provided online program. Through SchooLinks and the HSBP process, students explore their interests, learn about career possibilities and educational pathways, and create a plan through high school to prepare them for their goals after graduation. In cooperation with caregivers and school staff, students update their plan each year to reflect changing interests, strengths, and goals.

Students can access SchooLinks through their Classlink’s desktop. Students will have teacher-lead lessons during specific Patriot Advisory Times, throughout the school year. Students and families can find out more information by visiting the ISD High School & Beyond Plan webpage.

CTE Worksite Learning – earn credit for having a job!

Did you know that students can earn high school credit for having a part-time job? This program is called CTE Worksite Learning.

Students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be employed by an organization (self-employment doesn’t qualify)
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Passed or currently enrolled in a CTE course related to their job
  • Work at least 7 hours per week on average (approximately)

A student earns 0.5 CTE or elective credit (whichever they need) for every 180 hours they work during the school year and can earn up to 1.0 credits per school year.

To enroll in CTE Worksite Learning, students must complete the required paperwork. Hours don’t count until the paperwork is complete and returned to the College and Career Center, and once the employer has completed orientation with the district’s Worksite Learning Coordinator. Students cannot retroactively count hours (e.g. hours worked during the past summer or past school year don’t qualify).

Learn more here or visit your school's College & Career Center. You can also reach out to Jess Hall, CTE Post-High School Pathways Specialist, at hallj@issaquah.wednet.edu with questions.

College Application Help

Many select colleges (including the UW) have enrollment deadlines this fall. Please contact the LHS College & Career Center if you'd like assistance with applications, essays, or have other questions.

College Essay Help

Seniors looking for college essay help MUST make an appointment with the College & Career Center (CCC) and provide the CCC with a copy of your essay at least two school days prior to our meeting with you. We are unable to accommodate drop-in essay reviews!

Electronic essay drafts must include:

  • Your name
  • the school(s) you are applying to
  • the essay prompt(s)
  • your essay (your essay must be editable so we can add comments & notes. Do not just supply a link as those often fail!)

Email your essay to:LHSCollegeandCareer@issaquah.wednet.edu.

To make an essay-review appointment, students can stop by the CCC during our open hours (see above LHS College & Career Contact information) or they can email the CCC with their appointment request.

College & Career Center Access

The LHS College & Career Center (CCC) is located just inside the entrance to the library, in room 5203a. The CCC is open Mon-Fri from 7:30am-3:15pm. Students are welcome to drop in before or after school, during student lunches, and during any open/waiver periods.

Additionally, students are welcome to sign up for Flex-time in the CCC (Logon to Student Support Time, and look for “College and Career Help”).

Students are also welcome to email the CCC with questions, and/or to set up appointments with Becky Wachtman and Jillian Moss (your LHS College & Career Specialists). Please email us at: mailto:LHSCollegeandCareer@issaquah.wednet.edu
